Miss Herfsland Competition - Closing date: 25 August
2011
MESSAGE FROM THE PROUD JUDGE FOR MODEL CUP REGIONALS
First of all I think that our South African youth have wonderful
talent.
We have beautiful girls and very supportive parents.
Positive points:
Competition is very good for the little girls as it teaches them
to be more ladylike and make friends.
I want to point out that there is definitely advantages of
judging where there is Paris walks…. I can see the winners just
by having a glimpse, but then I give them all a fair chance to
confirm my first impression with what they have to show me.
"Looking neat and tidy is something parents should instill in
their kids all the time. Some of the girls are more aware but,
if they're going to be a role model, I think it’s important that
they look after themselves."
Look as per examples how beautifully dressed the Miss Nutriday
girls was – note that this was Smart Casual which obviously
allows you to do a bit more and not necessarily forces you to
look like the 3-5 year old girl in a tu-tu.
Negativity:
In any competitive environment people get nasty as part of human
nature. Just strange that the spite and tension is sometimes
more between the mothers. Luckily, little girls are unaware of
this aspect of beauty pageants. The bad part is when parents pay
a huge amount like in the case of a National or Regional finals
and you get the stubborn little boys that do not want to do what
their mothers are trying to teach them. Should the mother laugh
because the boy is actually cute, that is just the one thing
that the boy does not want to see. Moms need to relax and let
the boy go with the flow… he will eventually see what to do from
watching the big boys.
Unfortunately money plays a huge role but I have judged various
pageants and modeling events. Believe me – I look a bit past the
2 much! I look for confidence, confidence, confidence…. And then
obviously I look for combinations:
•
Sporty wear – originality with ponies…. Please don’t have
curls….. (by the way, I really hate judging swim wear… ha-ha)
• Evening wear – little girls – curls, curls, curls a must. It
is so important to have glossy, good looked after, healthy hair
with evening wear. You can wear the most expensive dress and not
have the overall look.
• Hands and feet, to see how well they are groomed – I must
admit I don’t specifically look for that but it will have an
effect on the overall look at the end.
Unfortunately, like in anything, there are parents who push
their kids too hard, but the majority of kids do it because they
enjoy it. It should be fun and memorable. Parents should realize
that each competition is like paying money towards the next
step. Each competition takes them one step ahead because you
have paid school money for more confidence and experience.
One thing that I will subtract points for is wearing belly rings
at a too young age. Sorry, but to me a mother who allows that
before the age of 16 should reconsider. That and a tattoo is out
for me before 16. I am one of the more conservative type of
judges.
3-5 years – to me this little girls should all just wear tutu’s
(not sure about the spelling) during the round of evening wear.
No tummies showing, no mini’s…. just my opinion but well worth
considering I should think.
I must just mention that I don’t appreciate the girls that smile
the same way the moment they got on the stage and when they step
off the mouth was still in the exact, same plastic position.
Girls, try and be natural… you have your unique smile… you are
more than welcome to do the flicking of the eyes and for that
one moment put up the perfect plastic smile to suite the moment
but PLEASE play around with your facial expressions, obviously
suiting the moment or the theme.
Interaction with other contestants can unfortunately only be
judged when competitions have interviews and there will be a
period of a 3-5 day being in each other’s presence.
This article of mine was not edited as a whole… I wrote down
exactly how I felt and what came up first in my mind.
FINAL MESSAGE – live your dreams…. Enjoy every moment on stage!
Hope to see you at the next pageant!

Baie dankie vir 'n fantastiese
website. Ek is 'n nuwe modelmamma, en vind al die foto's
en brokkies verskriklik interresant. Sukkel so bietjie om
It's a pity there
are no competitions for girls between the age of 24 - 29.
Many of my friends are models and would still love to compete
in such competitions. They have more time, money and experience.
Best place to advertise is in newspapers such as the Rekord
and also on the web.
Dit is regtig vir ons
as ma's 'n goeie "site" vir al die kompetisies,
want ek is nie altyd so op hoogte van alles nie. Sover het
ek al my kompetisies vir die jaar hiervan af gekry.
You are running a great
model site!!!
Claudette
The site is well planned,colourful
and very informative. Keeps us entertained. Easy for models
to get information on what is happening. I love the way
your web is very informative, well arranged.
Please keep up the good work.
Faith Brewin - Judge
Its very a very nice
website because it lets you know what is going on with all
of the pagents and it lets you know about the dates, and
is very helpful if you want to persue entering pagents.
